From Bread Buying To Bread Winner

Image
Her name is Lethukhanya Mjaja. She is three years old. She was sent to buy bread. Her uncle who is a commercial photographer, saw her playing in muddy water with the bread in her hand. He took some photos of her and posted them online. The pictures went viral and became the talk of South Africa's social media space. She caught the attention of the company that produces the bread. They decided to use the picture on their billboards and delivery trucks. This increased their sales massively, so they decided to reward the little girl in cash and kind.  From playing in a childlike, carefree manner in the mud, this little girl became the face of one of SA's leading bread brands. From going on an errand to buy bread for the family, she brought the bread company home and has become a breadwinner.  Her story reminds me of our own Jumoke the breadseller. She was photographed albeit accidentally, carrying bread. Today, she graces our tv screens. She is hardly recognisable because her ...

Dame Mary Quant, the British legendary fashion designer who popularized the short skirt, has died at the age of 93.

Mary Quant, the British designer who popularized the miniskirt, has died at the age of 93.  According to a statement released by her family to the PA news agency, she "died peacefully at home in Surrey, UK this morning."  Her family described her as "an internationally recognized fashion designer of the twentieth century and an outstanding innovator of the Swinging Sixties."  Quant became a poster girl for London's Youthquake in the 1960s. Although she is frequently incorrectly attributed as the originator, she unquestionably made the miniskirt the "it" clothing item for a new generation of young women. With her Vidal Sassoon hair and her fame as the face of Swinging London, she was regularly photographed and was virtually always wearing a mini - notably when she received her OBE in 1966. Quant did more than just wear miniskirts; she also designed them.  She was at the forefront of the 1960s fashion change that put kids front and center for the first...

Credit: Wallpapers  A young woman who died in a vehicle accident in Co Meath during the Easter weekend was described as a "angel" at her funeral today. Meghan Patricia Mallee (26) was killed in a single-vehicle collision on the N51 in the early hours of Saturday morning, just outside Rathmore on the outskirts of Athboy.  Ms Mallee, a resident of Gillstown Little, Athboy, and a former resident of Perth, Australia, was the lone occupant of the car involved. Meghan worked as a nurse in Navan's Our Lady's Hospital.  During her Funeral Mass at St James' Church in Athboy, a variety of gifts were presented to the altar to represent her life, including pictures of friends and family, a comfort teddy from her father that she carried everywhere, her nurse uniform, and a board game to signify treasured family time.  Meghan, according to Fr Pádraig McMahon, brought "light, laughter, and love" wherever she went.  Fr McMahon stated that "nothing will ever be the ...

After a one in a million diagnosis, a woman with no ovaries gives birth to a'miracle' baby.

Image
A lady who had her ovaries removed to receive life-saving cancer therapy has given birth to a "miracle" child. Stacey Broadmeadow, 38, was horrified when she learned she had a one-in-a-million uncommon cancer in 2017. But the news that she would need her ovaries removed - and hence might not be able to become a mother in the future - was even more devastating.  'I was crushed, completely sad,' she said of her diagnosis. "Well, that's it," I literally thought. I'll never be a mother. 'I'll never get the dream that I've always wanted.'  Stacey, from Stockport, initially noticed something was wrong when she began spotting and feeling stomach pain between periods.  She was sent for extra testing after her doctor ruled out pregnancy, which discovered fluid in her womb.  Stacey was diagnosed with pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP), a rare malignancy, and doctors informed her that she might lose her ovaries. 'But happily, my consultant was r...

Coolio, a rapper from Gangsta's Paradise, died as a result of fentanyl overdose, according to his management.

Image
Coolio, the rapper best known for the hits Gangsta's Paradise and Fantastic Voyage, died of fentanyl overdose last year, according to his manager. Coolio's former longtime manager Jarez Posey informed The Associated Press that fentanyl was the cause of death, with traces of heroin and methamphetamine already in his system. His death was ruled accidental by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office, which identified cardiomyopathy as a "significant condition." Posey also acknowledged that Coolio's acute asthma and cigarette smoking both played a factor in his demise.  Coolio, who was born Artis Leon Ivey Jr on August 1, 1963, died on September 28, 2022, at the age of 59, at the house of a friend in Los Angeles. Coolio received a Grammy nomination for best solo rap performance for Gangsta's Paradise, a 1995 hit from the soundtrack of the Michelle Pfeiffer film Dangerous Minds that sampled Stevie Wonder's 1976 song Pastime Paradise.  Coolio grew ...

I have a rare condition that causes my body to produce BEER; it cost me my job and my house because people mistakenly assumed I was an alcoholic.

Image
A former schoolteacher's life was nearly destroyed by a rare disease that caused his body to produce alcohol. Mark Mongiardo, 40, of Florida, has auto-brewery syndrome, which causes microbes in his gut to turn sugar into alcohol. It makes him look drunk even if he hasn't had any alcohol. The diagnosis arrived only after he had lost his entire career, his home, and had to live with his wife's family. She had started to suspect him of sneaking beers when no one was looking. Mr Mongiardo, on the other hand, had already been dragged over the coals by managers who accused him of smelling of alcohol at school. In 2019, he was stopped over twice in six months for 'drink driving,' despite not having touched alcohol. Mr. Mongiardo says he has to take 30 tablets a day and exist on a low-carb diet that excludes pasta and pizza, which is difficult for an Italian American. He claims he always takes a breathing test before getting behind the wheel.  ' For years, [my wife] b...

How an 845-pound reality star documented his journey and inspired thousands of people

Image
Weight loss is a difficult path that can feel impossible at times. Many of us have experienced it, and it can have a significant impact on both our bodily and emotional well-being. But here's the thing: it's not impossible. Real-life instances are sometimes the most inspiring. Consider the case of Casey King. He weighted 845 pounds at his heaviest. He did, however, manage to lose two-thirds of his body weight through sheer determination and hard effort. Casey King first came to national attention on TLC's reality show Family by the Ton. According to King, he was always a "big kid," and by the time he graduated from high school, he weighed in at 300 pounds. Rather than changing his eating habits, he continued to work in restaurants and consume unhealthy fast food.  Because of his significant weight gain, King had difficulty performing routine tasks such as bathing. His physical size prohibited him from fitting into a normal shower or bathtub, forcing him to clean...

Drew, 48, had to take a short break while speaking with Jennifer and Adam about their new film Murder Mystery 2. Drew was staring down the camera after moving her chair closer to her guests and began exclaiming, "I'm so hot!" 'I believe I'm experiencing my first perimenopausal heat flush,' she explained. She removed her windbreaker and began fanning herself while Jennifer adjusted Drew's microphone. 'I feel so honored,' Jennifer joked, about being present to observe the moment.
