From Bread Buying To Bread Winner

Her name is Lethukhanya Mjaja. She is three years old. She was sent to buy bread. Her uncle who is a commercial photographer, saw her playing in muddy water with the bread in her hand. He took some photos of her and posted them online. The pictures went viral and became the talk of South Africa's social media space. She caught the attention of the company that produces the bread. They decided to use the picture on their billboards and delivery trucks. This increased their sales massively, so they decided to reward the little girl in cash and kind. 

From playing in a childlike, carefree manner in the mud, this little girl became the face of one of SA's leading bread brands. From going on an errand to buy bread for the family, she brought the bread company home and has become a breadwinner. 

Her story reminds me of our own Jumoke the breadseller. She was photographed albeit accidentally, carrying bread. Today, she graces our tv screens. She is hardly recognisable because her story has changed. Whenever l watch her in the Amstel Malta 'My time is now' commercial, l see the real definition of when grace speaks for someone. 

There is this thing about "time and chance." We never know when it will happen but when it happens, there is no stopping the flow. Lethukhanya and Jumoke were just doing their own thing and grace found them at the time it was meant to find them. 

For LungJisNi Mjaji, Lethukhanya's uncle, l don't see his career remaining the same again. I won't be shocked if he becomes the Official photographer for many brands in SA. He was just being himself, doing something he enjoys doing. Little did he know that the pictures he took of his 3 year old niece, would catapult him to fame as well. The story of his niece is not told without mentioning his name.

At least three minors were among the 31 passengers killed when the ferry caught fire.

A tornado kills 23 people in Mississippi, wreaking pandemonium in the southern US state.

  Tornadoes swept over Mississippi, killing at least 23 people and left a devastation in their wake. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency stated on Twitter that search and rescue teams from local and state agencies had been mobilized to assist tornado victims. Early Saturday, the agency revealed that 23 people had perished, four were missing, and dozens had been injured. "Unfortunately, these numbers are expected to change," the agency tweeted a few minutes later. A tornado inflicted damage around 60 miles north-east of Jackson, Mississippi, according to the National Weather Service. Paul O'Grady died at the age of 67, according to his spouse. Andre Portasio, the TV star and comedian best known for his drag queen character Lily Savage, died "unexpectedly but peacefully" on Tuesday evening, according to a statement. A metropolitan shopping center has been evacuated as firefighters battle a massive fire in a nearby parking lot. Emergency services were called to the multi-story building near to the Capitol Centre in Cardiff city centre. A "thick rancid smell and plumes of smoke" were noticed by shoppers shortly after the fire erupted, followed by numerous loud booms. The US CENTCOM commander arrives in Israel to discuss cooperation and combined naval operations.

Michael Erik Kurilla, commander of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), arrived in Israel on Wednesday night for a visit aimed at improving military ties, particularly in the area of naval operations.  Kurilla, who was received by Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, began his tour to the Israeli Navy's elite Shayetet 13 commando unit on Thursday.  Cpt. "Aleph," who can only be identified by the first letter of his first name in Hebrew, informed Kurilla. Humza Yousaf has been named the new leader of the Scottish National Party, succeeding Nicola Sturgeon.

  Following a vote in Holyrood on Tuesday, Humza Yousaf won the SNP leadership election and will most likely succeed Nicola Sturgeon as First Minister of Scotland. Yousaf, who was elected as the youngest MSP in 2011 at the age of 26, has spent weeks battling for the position of next First Minister alongside Ash Regan and Kate Forbes. A total of 50,494 valid votes were cast, representing a 70% turnout. Because no candidate received 50% of the first-choice vote, Regan, who garnered the fewest votes, was eliminated, leaving only Forbes and Yousaf. Forbes won 47.9% of the vote out of the two surviving contenders, while Humza Yousaf obtained 52.1%.
