From Bread Buying To Bread Winner

Image
Her name is Lethukhanya Mjaja. She is three years old. She was sent to buy bread. Her uncle who is a commercial photographer, saw her playing in muddy water with the bread in her hand. He took some photos of her and posted them online. The pictures went viral and became the talk of South Africa's social media space. She caught the attention of the company that produces the bread. They decided to use the picture on their billboards and delivery trucks. This increased their sales massively, so they decided to reward the little girl in cash and kind.  From playing in a childlike, carefree manner in the mud, this little girl became the face of one of SA's leading bread brands. From going on an errand to buy bread for the family, she brought the bread company home and has become a breadwinner.  Her story reminds me of our own Jumoke the breadseller. She was photographed albeit accidentally, carrying bread. Today, she graces our tv screens. She is hardly recognisable because her ...

Russia's most recent nocturnal attack on Kiev results in four deaths as Ukraine shoots down 35 drones.

Image
In response to Russia's most recent nighttime attack, Ukraine air defenses shot down 35 drones built in Iran above Kiev.  According to officials, four civilians were murdered in the attacks carried out by Kremlin forces across Ukraine.  On the eve of the customary Red Square remembrances commemorating the defeat of Nazi Germany in the Second World War, Moscow imposed strict security. At the time the bombardments occurred.  For the first time in years, military parades, a mainstay of Victory Day festivities across Russia, were postponed on May 9 in at least 21 Russian cities, according to Russian media.  Regional officials mentioned "security concerns" or "the current situation" in general terms.  Moscow and St. Petersburg, two of Russia's major cities, will host parades.  Prior to Victory Day, however, drone use has been outlawed in both cities.  Jet ski use in several areas of St. Petersburg, which is known as "northern Venice" because of its s...

Image
At a retail center in the Dallas region of Texas, a shooter shot and killed eight people while also injuring a number of others.  According to authorities, a nearby police officer shot and killed the shooter.  The attack at Allen Premium Outlets, the most recent instance of gun violence in the US, also left seven other individuals injured, three of them gravely.  Although witnesses saw children among the victims, authorities did not immediately release information about them.  Some claimed to have also seen what seemed to be an unconscious police officer and mall security guard.  An internet dashcam footage depicted a gunman exiting a car in front of the retail center and starting to shoot at pedestrians there. The sound of more than 30 gunfire could be heard as the vehicle that was filming the incident accelerated.  Wetzel's Pretzels shift leader Maxwell Gum, 16, was on his lunch break when a family with little English came into the back of his busi...

Texas motorists hit a bus stop full of migrants, leaving seven people dead.

Image
In the border city of Brownsville, Texas, seven people were killed and up to six more were hurt after they were hit by a car while waiting at a bus stop outside of a migrant shelter.  As soon as he heard about the crash on Sunday morning, Bishop Enrique San Pedro Ozanam Center director Victor Maldonado said he watched the shelter's security footage.  The city bus stop is unmarked and located across the street from the shelter. According to Maldonado, there was no bench and people were waiting along the curb. Most of the victims, he claimed, were men from Venezuela.  "What we see in the video is that this SUV, a Range Rover, just ran the light which was about 100ft away and just went through the people who were sitting there in the bus stop," Maldonado said.  He claimed that after approaching the curb, the automobile flipped and continued to move for about 200 feet. A few pedestrians who were around 30 feet from the main group and were walking on the pavement w...

'Godfather of AI' Geoffrey Hinton leaves Google and issues a warning about job losses and other risks

Image
Hinton clarified Google's position on the advancement of AI. The technology's creator stated in a tweet that he did not leave Google to criticize it.  The man dubbed "the Godfather of A.I.", Geoffrey Hinton, has resigned his position at Google. This shift represents a critical turning point in the advancement of AI, as Hinton is joining forces with other detractors to raise awareness of the possible risks associated with AI,  according to a New York Times report.  The pioneer of artificial intelligence laid the theoretical groundwork for the AI systems that drive modern chatbots like ChatGPT. He was one of the most esteemed experts in the field and has over ten years of experience working with Google.  Hinton claimed in an interview with The Times that he left his position at Google so that he could talk openly about the dangers of AI. He acknowledged that he had certain regrets over his life's job. He argues that it is difficult to see how any of us can stop m...

The era of remote work, according to ChatGPT creator Sam Altman, is over.

Image
Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, thinks that one of the worst mistakes made by the tech industry was allowing everyone to become completely remote.  Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the company that makes ChatGPT, has stated that while employees working remotely cause confusion, those working from the office can produce new technologies. He said that we still lack the technology necessary for people to work entirely remotely during a session hosted by the financial company Stripe, as reported by India Today Tech.  Altman continued by stating that he views working remotely as an experiment. "I think definitely one of the tech industry's worst mistakes in a long time was that everyone (thought they) could go fully remote forever, and startups didn't need to be together," he said. There wouldn't be a decline in originality. The technology is still not sophisticated enough for individuals to remain fully remote indefinitely, especially on startups, therefore I'd say that ...
