Fiesta thieves were so enamored with the vehicle that they stole £366,000 in five months.

 

Two thieves were sentenced to prison after stealing 59 Ford Fiestas worth over £366,000 in just five months. Kaine Guest-Scott, 22, and Theon Lynch, 21, targeted areas where commuters frequently left their vehicles on their way to work. They used transmitter devices to prevent the alarms on cars parked at train stations and park and rides across the Midlands from going off. The pair then used angle grinders to break steering locks and reprogramme blank keys before driving away. They committed the crime so frequently that they mastered it, with CCTV capturing them stealing one vehicle in just 90 seconds. The 59 stolen Ford Fiestas were taken between June and November of last year and stripped for parts. Guest- Scott and Lynch were arrested in November of last year after a major investigation turned up damning evidence against them. 

On September 14, cameras captured the pair arriving at The Hawthorns station car park in West Bromwich in Lynch's red Ford Fiesta. They drove a few streets before returning to the parking lot and stealing another Fiesta. Similarly, on October 20 at around 2.15pm, they were seen taking another Ford Fiesta from the Rowley Regis car park near Blackheath. The owner of this vehicle had left their credit card inside, and Guest-Scott and Lynch were caught on CCTV using it later that day at a store. When Guest-Scott was arrested at his home on November 14, he attempted to flee by jumping out a window. Lynch was arrested a week later. 

The clothing they were wearing was discovered in surveillance footage, and an examination of the thieves' phones revealed that they were in the parking lots when the cars were stolen. Transmitter devices, blank Ford keys, and specialized auto locksmith tools, such as a turbo decoder for bypassing car door locks and reprogramming devices, were also recovered. At Birmingham Crown Court, the pair both admitted conspiracy to commit theft of a motor vehicle, 59 thefts, theft of a bank card, and fraud. Guest-Scott of Coseley was sentenced to four years in prison, while Lynch of West Bromwich was sentenced to three years and one month. 'This is a great result, and it means that two prolific car thieves have been brought to justice and prevented from stealing any more cars,' said Sergeant Mitch Darby of the Vehicle Crime Taskforce. 'Guest-Scott and Lynch brazenly committed these crimes again and again during the day while their unsuspected victims were at work, returning to these car parks to find that their car had vanished.'

A tornado kills 23 people in Mississippi, wreaking pandemonium in the southern US state.

  Tornadoes swept over Mississippi, killing at least 23 people and left a devastation in their wake. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency stated on Twitter that search and rescue teams from local and state agencies had been mobilized to assist tornado victims. Early Saturday, the agency revealed that 23 people had perished, four were missing, and dozens had been injured. "Unfortunately, these numbers are expected to change," the agency tweeted a few minutes later. A tornado inflicted damage around 60 miles north-east of Jackson, Mississippi, according to the National Weather Service. The remote settlements of Silver City and Rolling Fork were destroyed as the tornado moved northeast at 70 mph, racing into Alabama through towns like Winona and Amory into the night.
