Cardiff shopping centre has been evacuated as firefighters battle a massive fire.

A metropolitan shopping center has been evacuated as firefighters battle a massive fire in a nearby parking lot. Emergency services were called to the multi-story building near to the Capitol Centre in Cardiff city centre. A "thick rancid smell and plumes of smoke" were noticed by shoppers shortly after the fire erupted, followed by numerous loud booms. Shoppers were evacuated from Capitol Centre, which houses several high-end stores and is adjacent to the car park. People who were utilizing the center's gym were also asked to leave. "There were several loud explosions heard. As far as I can tell, no one was hurt, and the cars around were mostly unharmed," one witness told Wales Online. "That was quite loud. When I looked out the window, I saw what appeared to be a white VW on fire on the top level of the Capitol Centre. "A fire crew arrived on the scene and extinguished the flames." Images uploaded on social media show a heavy column of grey smoke pouring across the city center. Other amazing photographs show flames roaring from a white vehicle parked on the roof of the massive car lot. No other vehicles were damaged, according to the photos. "I hope everyone is okay," a Cardiff resident wrote online. "I hope no one is injured." "This is so sad to see," said another. "I pray that everyone is safe."

At roughly 11.40 a.m., two fire departments responded to the blaze. "At approximately 11:39am on Monday 27 March 2023, we received reports of a vehicle fire in a multi-story car park on Queen Street, Cardiff," a spokeswoman for South West Fire and Rescue Service said. "Crews from Roath and Ely Fire and Rescue Stations responded to the scene and used specialist equipment to extinguish the fire." The fire has been extinguished.
