A student successfully appealed a £60 parking penalty using ChatGPT.
A student was able to revoke a parking citation by using the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT. Millie Houlton, 22, of York, used the site to send an email to the council, which resulted in the revocation of the £60 fine for parking over a yellow line. Millie, a business management student, used the AI chatbot to create a professionally worded email to appeal the charge, believing she wouldn't be able to do so herself. After asking ChatGPT to assist her in writing a letter to the council after they issued her a parking citation and explaining the situation, the AI responded with a polite response for Millie to send. Millie used her £60 and went on a student night out to celebrate after being successful in having the fine revoked.
'I think I wouldn't have been able to word it the way ChatGPT did, and I probably wouldn't have had it taken back if it hadn't been for it,' she explained. 'I was relieved because, as a student, I don't want to spend £60 on a tool that can help me put my ideas into words in a professional way,' she says. Millie stated that she discovered ChatGPT while doing content creation for businesses and realized she could use it for other parts of her life. She now uses it for picture captions, emails, and everything else. 'I feel like the parking ticket was issued incorrectly, and I'm not good at putting my ideas across on paper, so I used ChatGPT and it worked to appeal it,' she explained.
'My colleagues have already begun using it to assist them in writing letters. It's just a matter of knowing your issue, telling ChatGPT about it, and then it puts everything into words in a professional manner.' 'If you use it correctly, it's really excellent, though I've heard some horror stories,' says the author. 'I believe it can provide some excellent answers if you know how to use it. Everyone is talking about ChatGPT right now, but I doubt many people would know how to use it to revoke a parking charge.' Millie has had many people question her what ChatGPT is and how to use it after she posted a video of her ordeal on TikTok. 'I don't believe many people are aware of it or how to use it properly, so now I make videos on how to use it as a student,' she explained. 'I was surprised by the reaction I received on TikTok; a lot of people have seen it and are asking me what it is,' she says. 'So many people have said it's a great concept and have enjoyed my video,' she says. Millie is not the first individual to use ChatGPT to avoid a parking ticket. Last month, a driver used ChatGPT to lower his Gatwick airport drop-off fine from £100 to £15.
